Athens: Anarchist Dimitris Hadjivasiliadis among the lately arrested in Nea Filadelfeia

Dimitris Hadjivasiliadis is an anarchist who was arrested in mid-February 2011 at a random police check in Athens. He was remanded after being charged with ‘weapon possession with intent to supply,’ in accordance with the Greek anti-terrorist law. Dimitris remained in pretrial detention for ten months with no substantial evidence whatsoever against him, until he was finally released on bail in December 2011.

Comrades report that he is one among the five persons that got arrested in Nea Filadelfeia on April 30th, 2013 —alongside Fivos Harisis-Poulos, Argyris Ntalios, and two other persons.

During his custody in the police headquarters of Athens, Dimitris defied the human-guards and was forced to stand for 12 hours without sitting, while he was handcuffed 24 hours a day even in the detention cell. Only on May 2nd was he able to contact a lawyer. On May 3rd the comrade was also expected to undergo a preliminary hearing at Evelpidon courts, with frivolous charges filed against him. In the meantime, Dimitris declared that he goes on hunger/thirst strike in response to the conditions of his detention, demanding his immediate release.

More updates as they come.
